FRI 7.30 rang m.wade and s meadows, vote 3-0 to go,4pm got a phone call we had a driver couldn't go,had to change routes,5pm went to yard for wagon then to CON fed, then DV WD CR AND CF WD FEDS PICKED UP.on site for 1 am birds watered and opened by 1.30am .SAT 6.30 good skies on site but low LYING MIST and fog on route.8am clearing top end and near race sites,still poor ripon to Darlington.8.45 clearing well at ripon ,with MIST at leaking, but clearing,waited for wetherby birds,BIRDS up at9.20 and 9.40 both clearing well.peter matthews

Arrived at yard at 5.00 picked up Consett met with Annfield Plain wagon and loaded on to trailer . Picked up Darlington Darlington, met up at Leeming Bar to sort birds into 2 wagons and 2 trailers.
Arrived at Wetherby at 12,30 birds opened up and watered by 1.00
Sat up at 6 ok on site ,mist on route but forecast to clear,
7.00 clearing on route still ok on site,
Liberated Newcastle,Tyne Derwent and Annfield Plain at 8.15 Consett at 8.35 In a south east wind both groups clearing well

Received a sad message this morning to say that Joe had passed away,
Joe was a long time employee of the Amalgamation until poor health forced him to retire a couple of seasons ago ,he worked on maintaining the wagons as well as driving to races
He still called at the garage to see the lads regularly and I talked to him about a month ago , as usual always a story to tell
Joe had a wealth of knowledge about the wagons and transporting of the birds and was still available for advice after he retired
To his wife and family and would like to pass on my deepest condolences
