Notes from DEFRA teams meeting today.

Following a team's meeting today 6th February where all race organisations were present in discussion with Defra representatives on channel racing and latest situation regarding Bird Flu .
It was pointed out that members wishing to fly the channel must have a loft visit by Vet before racing commences their for all NEHU lofts would need loft visit before 7th APRIL 2023.
I asked the question wether any easement would be allowed concerning Vets at marking stations if it was possible to have Feeder marking stations Ferrying to main pick up where official vet could do a visual inspection of birds then carry his duties out filling all the relevant paper work in Unfortunately it stipulates that a vet must attend all marking stations.I raised this question and explained that finding Vets willing to carry out what the pigeon fancier requires are in short supply.
Sandhill vets have already replied to the NEHU stating due to their work load on poultry farms they are unable to carry out loft visits and can not commit to availability of a vet at the marking station. There for enquires have been made else where for an official vet to attending Sappers corner which we will know in the next 10 days.

Discussion also took place regarding the latest situation in Bird Flu question were asked if it was possible for special licences to be obtained where members in surveillance and protection zones could take the birds to be basketed outside of these zones.
Defra will look at and come back to the race organisations in due course.
NEHU represented by Richard wade vice President.
