Remembrance Sunday

This morning my wife Norma and I attended St Catherine’s Church in Crook for the Rememberance Sunday Service and Cenotaph Parade afterwards

On behalf of the West Durham Amalgamation I took with me a wreath. The service started with all the wreaths being laid at the alter and a packed church heard a very moving service ,from the church we walked the short distance to the cenotaph which had a crowd of several hundred people there, all the names of the people laying wreaths were read out and I placed the wreath on the cenotaph.

The Amalgamation also has a banner ( photo on page 157 in handbook ) which celebrates animals at war ,this week it has been used by the local school and today was on display in the church , our local vicar was delighted to be able to display the banner in the church and asked me if he may keep it on display for a few weeks ,during the service there was also a mention of animals at war including pigeons.

All in a very moving experience
